The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announced it will close Central Avenue in Festus under the I-55 bridge from 7 p.m. today, March 28 to 5 a.m. Monday, March 31, for a bridge demolition, weather permitting.
A MoDOT written statement said traffic on southbound I-55 has been shifted to a new bridge over Central Avenue allowing for the demolition of the old southbound I-55 bridge at the location.
Drivers are encouraged to use other routes than Central Avenue during the weekend closure.
The demolition of the southbound bridge over Central Avenue follows the demolition of two southbound I-55 structures (over Hwy. 67 and North Third Street) completed earlier this month in the Festus area. All three bridges will be replaced with new structures.
