Crews will close McNutt Street under I-55 in Herculaneum from 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, through 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, for bridge demolition work, the Missouri Department of Transportation has announced.
The lanes on I-55 will remain open during the closure as traffic on the interstate has been shifted onto a new bridge over McNutt Street. All work is weather permitting.
MoDOT suggests the following detour routes for the weekend closure:
■ Drivers west of I-55 on McNutt Street should access northbound I-55 by detouring onto southbound I-55 and traveling to the exit ramp at Veterans Boulevard (Hwy. A) in Festus, traveling eastbound on Veterans Boulevard to north on Hwy 61-67 to west on McNutt Street to the northbound I-55 entrance ramp.
■ Drivers east of I-55 on McNutt Street should access south I-55 by detouring onto northbound I-55 to the exit ramp to Hwy. Z in Pevely, travel westbound on Hwy. Z to the southbound I-55 entrance ramp.
■ Travelers in the Herculaneum area are urged to use alternate routes during the weekend closure.
The bridge work is part of an estimated $246 million I-55 Corridor Improvements project that runs from just north of Pevely to just south of Festus.
The purpose of the overall project is to address traffic and safety concerns along the I-55 corridor and account for future development and growth patterns in the region, according to the MoDOT website.
