Mercy is expected to take over operation of pharmacies located in Dierbergs grocery stores by the spring, including the ones in the Arnold and Fenton stores, according to the health-care provider and the grocery store chain.

The companies entered an agreement for Mercy to acquire all 22 of Dierbergs’ traditional and specialty pharmacies and operate the pharmacies in their current locations under a long-term lease. Mercy also may develop pharmacies at future Dierbergs locations under the agreement.

A pharmacy located in Dierbergs store at 860 Arnold Commons Drive and a pharmacy in the Dierbergs store at 450 Smizer Mill Road in Fenton are among the 22 locations that Mercy will take over.

“Since 1980, Dierbergs has offered high-quality pharmacy services,” Greg Dierbergs, president and CEO of Dierbergs Markets, said in a written statement.

“Customers trust their Dierbergs pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and enjoy the convenience of having this service right in our stores. The clinical and business aspects of pharmacies are changing rapidly.

“Entrusting the pharmacies to Mercy ensures the continued delivery and enhancement of these services in Dierbergs Markets with the exceptional service and quality customers throughout Missouri and Illinois count on.”

The addition of the 22 Dierbergs’ pharmacies will expand the number of pharmacies Mercy operates in the St. Louis region to 34, according to the written statement.

“Mercy is focused on making care accessible and close to home for patients across the metro area and in every community we serve, and convenient pharmacy services are critical to that care,” said Stephen Mackin, executive vice president of Mercy and president of Mercy St. Louis Community.

“Adding the Dierbergs pharmacy locations will further Mercy’s community health efforts in the St. Louis region, which include our focus on urgent care with our Mercy-GoHealth centers and our growing number of outpatient locations. Mercy is committed to meeting people where they live, work and shop.”

All Dierbergs pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy associates in good standing when the transition concludes will continue working at their current locations and become employed by Mercy, subject to completing onboarding requirements, according to a written statement.

“All prescriptions and customer information will transfer to Mercy seamlessly,” Mackin said. “And, in most cases, the same caring pharmacists and technicians will continue to serve customers at Mercy Pharmacy locations in Dierbergs after this transition.”
