jefferson county drug prevention coalition

The Jefferson County Drug Prevention Coalition has changed the location for its “May the 4th Be With You” event.

It will be held from 1-5 p.m. Saturday (May 4) at the First Baptist Church of Arnold Family Life Center, 2012 Missouri State Road.

The event originally was going to be held at the Herculaneum City Park, but organizers decided to relocate it to Arnold because of predicted flooding, which could close the bridge on Hwy. 61-67 over Joachim Creek in Herculaneum, said Alicia Towery of the Jefferson County Health Department.

Towery said the only change is the location. The event will still have games, crafts, concessions, a 50/50 drawing, a costume contest and more.

Towery said the event is free and open to the public. However, there will be a cost to buy concessions and entries for the 50/50 drawing. Only cash will be accepted for the concessions and drawing entries. Concessions will include hamburgers, hot dogs, soda, water and chips.

She said the main reason the coalition is holding the event is to provide local residents with a “safe and sober” event for the weekend. She said the next day, May 5, is Cinco de Mayo and normally is known as a drinking holiday.

“We wanted to combat that with a safe and sober event,” Towery said.

She said the event also will have bounce houses, a personality test to find out what color your light saber would be and an Army National Guard activity trailer.

Towery said she encourages people to dress up as Star Wars characters for the costume contests, which will offer prizes.
