Jefferson County has seen one more flu-related death. The death was reported the week of April 28, bringing the total number of flu-related deaths to two this respiratory season, which began Oct. 1 and runs through May 18, the Jefferson County Health Department reported.

The first flu-related death was reported the week of Jan. 7.

The department has received 40 reports of a COVID-related death this respiratory season.

From Oct. 1 to May 4, 3,474 flu cases and 5,550 COVID cases were reported.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get this season’s COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of the illness. In February, the CDC recommended a second dosage of this season’s vaccine for adults 65 and older.

In addition, the CDC recommends a flu shot each season for anyone 6 months and older.
