Jefferson College officials announced they will close the school at noon today (Jan. 11) due to predictions for a winter storm to hit the area this afternoon.
College officials initially intended to close the school at 3 p.m. but moved up the closing upon updated weather forecasts.
All the Jefferson County school districts also have announced early dismissals, most of them beginning between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The Rockwood School District also has announced an early dismissal.
Check with the individual school districts for their particular early release schedules.
National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the St. Louis region from noon today to midnight Saturday, calling for heavy snow, with predictions of 6- to 9-inches of snow, plus sleet and ice. The agency also predicts snow to begin falling this morning.
