Jefferson County recently saw its first flu-related death this respiratory season, which began Oct. 1 and runs through mid-May, the Jefferson County Health Department reported.
The flu-related death and one COVID-19-related death were reported to the Health Department during the week of Jan. 7-13.
Jefferson County has had 22 COVID-related deaths this respiratory season, the Health Department reported.
From Oct. 1 to Jan. 13, 4,196 COVID cases were reported. During the same period, 542 flu cases were reported, with 397 Type A cases and 145 Type B cases, according to the Health Department.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get the updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of the illness.
In addition, the CDC recommends a flu shot each season for anyone 6 months and older.
