Jefferson County has seen one more COVID-related death. The death was reported the week of May 5, bringing the total number of COVID-related deaths to 41 this respiratory season, which began Oct. 1 and runs through May 18, the Jefferson County Health Department reported.
Two flu-related deaths have been reported this respiratory season.
From Oct. 1 to May 11, 3,489 flu cases and 5,574 COVID cases were reported.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get this season’s COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of the illness. In February, the CDC recommended a second dosage of this season’s vaccine for adults 65 and older.
In addition, the CDC recommends a flu shot each season for anyone 6 months and older.
