Terry Noble has resigned his seat on the De Soto Board of Education, and the district is seeking applicants to replace him.
In Noble’s Aug. 15 letter of resignation, he said he was moving out of the district – to Farmington, where he will become the Farmington High School boys basketball coach.
While board members voted unanimously Aug. 17 to accept Noble’s resignation, they did so reluctantly, board president Jeff Russell said.
“Terry, obviously, has been an excellent board member,” Russell said. “He’s been an asset to our school district as both a board member and during his years as superintendent. We wish him nothing but the best.”
Noble, 66, who served on the board since April 2015, previously served as De Soto’s superintendent, from 2002 to 2007.
De Soto schools Superintendent Josh Isaacson also praised Noble’s contributions to the district.
“He’s been a good member of the community, the school district and the board for many years,” Isaacson said. “We certainly wish him well and thank him for all he’s done. He’ll always be a Dragon at heart.”
Noble, who did not attend the Aug. 17 meeting, said he is leaving the district with fond memories.
“I’ve really enjoyed working with the board and the administration,” he said. “I wish them the best.”
Noble said he had to resign, though, because he and his wife, Thana, are moving to Farmington.
Replacement sought
For the second time this year, the district is looking for applicants to fill an open board seat. Longtime board member Larry Sanders resigned his seat on May 18 after discovering he had inadvertently moved outside of the district – into the neighboring Sunrise R-9 School District – despite his new home being in the city of De Soto. The board appointed his replacement, Lori McKee, on July 20.
The deadline to apply for the seat vacated when Noble resigned is Aug. 31. The person who’s appointed to fill that seat will serve until the next election in April 2018, at which time the seat will be up for election for a new three-year term.
To be eligible for the board appointment, a candidate must be at least 24 years old, a Missouri resident for at least one year, a De Soto School District resident and meet other requirements, such as having no unpaid taxes.
McKee also will fill the seat she was appointed to in July until the next election in April 2018, when the final year of the seat’s three-year term will be up for election.
