A home in the 1500 block of Pecan Court in High Ridge was significantly damaged by fire last week. The woman and two men who live there, along with two dogs, got out of the home without injuries, High Ridge Fire Chief John Barton said.
The High Ridge Fire Protection District got a call at 1:37 p.m. Feb. 3 about the fire, Barton said.
“One of the occupants on the home's upper floor noticed black smoke outside his window and alerted the other occupants of the fire. The first truck arrived on the scene at 1:42 p.m. and (the crew) reported the home's back deck was on fire, and it appeared (the fire had) extended up the back of the house and into the attic. The occupants of the home all escaped the fire before the fire units arrived on the scene.
“Crews immediately began attacking the fire and searched the home to verify there were no more victims. The fire was under control and extinguished by 2:14 p.m., with no injuries to first responders.”
Barton said today, Feb. 6, that the cause of the fire had not been determined, but “it appeared to originate on the home's back deck near an area frequently used for smoking.”
He said firefighters remained on the scene until 3:35 p.m.
“The Red Cross was notified to assist the occupants,” Barton said.
He said the Fenton Fire Protection District helped with the call, and the North Jefferson County Ambulance District also responded to the scene.
