Jefferson R-7 School District officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony at 1:45 p.m. Thursday, April 28, for a new addition to Telegraph Intermediate School, 1265 Dooling Hollow Road, south of Festus.

The addition will house the district’s preschool program and will include four classrooms and a multipurpose room.

The project, estimated to cost between $1.2 million to $1.4 million, will be funded with revenue from a $12.5 million bond issue approved by voters in April 2015.

Pinnacle Contracting of St. Louis is the project’s construction manager.

Superintendent Clint Johnston said the groundbreaking will go on rain or shine.

Attendees are asked to park in the nearby Selma Baptist Church parking lot, 1251 Dooling Hollow Road.

Plastic hard hats and shovels will be provided to all pre-kindergarten students for the event.

Johnston said district officials will later hold a separate groundbreaking ceremony for a performing arts center at Jefferson High School also to be funded with revenue from the April 2015 bond issue.

The project, with an estimated cost of $4.5 million to $5 million, will offer 640 to 650 seats, officials say.
