The 14-year-old Festus girl who was seriously hurt Thursday afternoon (Feb. 21) when she fell approximately 50 feet from the West Main Street bridge onto northbound I-55 below has undergone surgery, Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis said.
Lewis said he did not know the girl’s condition this morning (Feb. 22).
It is still not known if she jumped or fell from the bridge, he said.
The incident occurred about 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Lewis said.
He said the girl was not struck by vehicles after she fell onto the interstate.
Joachim-Plattin Ambulance personnel arrived and began treating the girl. Then, she was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur.
Lewis would not give the girl’s name but said her family had been notified.
He said police got several calls about the incident. Crystal City Police, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Festus Fire Department also responded to the scene, Lewis said.
