The Fox C-6 School District will help students and parents get ready for school at its second annual Kindergarten Readiness Rally.

The rally will be from 2-6 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the Fox C-6 Service Center, 849 Jeffco Blvd.

Last year, 220 incoming kindergartners and parents attended the event, said Tiffany Allen, Parents as Teachers supervisor.

“We really felt the Kindergarten Readiness Rally was beneficial for our family,” said Christine Wylie, whose son, Jordan, attends kindergarten at Simpson Elementary School. “We were able to get a lot of information needed for our son to start school, all in one location.

“Our son enjoyed the event by playing in an obstacle course, practicing with a lunch tray and milk carton, and a Kona Ice snow cone at the end. We also were given tools to help our son get academically ready, including a daily reading and activity plan. I would highly recommend this event to any incoming kindergarten family.”

“The overall feedback about the rally was that it was fun and engaging and that it helped parents and students feel more relaxed about the upcoming kindergarten year,” Simpson Elementary kindergarten teach Katie Henry said.

While pre-registration for the rally is not required, it is recommended to allow organizers to prepare materials and have name tags ready for everyone who attends.

“We are hoping for 300 to 350 people to attend,” Allen said.

The rally will feature five activity stations for incoming students to practice counting, reading, writing and gross motor skills.

Allen said the district will have teachers and administrators from its 11 elementary schools at the rally. When parents and students check in at their school’s table, they will receive name tags and an activities punch card, which can be redeemed for a Kona Ice snow cone after a child completes all five activity stations.

Students also will have a chance to tour a school bus, and they will have the opportunity to take home free books, Allen said.

The district also will have representative from the district’s nursing, after-school care, nutrition and transportation departments to talk with parents.

Representatives from parent organizations and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will also attend the rally.

“I think the schools gain by having teachers and administrators make connections with our families early,” Allen said. “And the PTOs are able to connect with families and share information that they wouldn’t be able to share until the fall without this.”
