Steps are being replaced in front of the First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this month.
“The work (to replace the steps) started this week,” church officer manager Pam Giedinghagen said today (Oct. 2). “They’re chipping out the old steps and will put in new ones. (The steps) have probably been there since the ‘50s.”
Giedinghagen said she does not know how long it will take to complete the project.
The church, at 107 N. Truman Blvd. in Crystal City, will celebrate its 125th anniversary Sunday, Oct. 11.
Several events are scheduled that day, including Sunday school at 9:30 a.m., a worship service at 10:45 a.m. a catered meal ($5 per person but no more than $10 per family) at 12:30 p.m.
