If you've noticed steam clouds rising from Festus streets, there’s no need to worry.
The steam is the result of a sewer-lining project underway around the city, Public Works Matt Clemens said.
In March, the Festus City Council awarded a $130,124 contract to Instituform to install a fabric lining in groups of sewer lines around the city. The fabric cures inside the pipes, lining them and eliminating the need to dig up and repair sewer lines.
The work began in late May and should take two to three weeks, Clemens said.
He said the sewer lining is part of regular maintenance to the city’s sewer lines and is done on a rotating basis.
