Festus R-6 School District students will not have classes on Monday (April 4), and they will learn remotely from home on Tuesday (April 5).
Superintendent Link Luttrell recommended the change to the schedule because the district will have enough student attendance hours without holding school on April 4.
“We’ll still be able to meet our 1,044 hours (of class time required by the state for the school year),” he said.
Luttrell also pointed out that April 5 is an election day and since Festus Middle School is a polling place, it would be easier to ensure social distancing in the building if students learn remotely that day, and he recommended the schedule change apply to students districtwide rather than just at the middle school.
The Festus Board of Education voted 5-0 Feb. 16 to approve the schedule changes. Board member Todd Oetting did not attend the meeting.
