Festus Police are investigating a rash of vehicle break-ins discovered at two hotels the morning of May 9.

Chief Tim Lewis said May 14 his department got the first call from Comfort Inn, 1303 Veterans Blvd.

“We were called at 6:10 a.m. about four vehicle break-ins at Comfort Inn,” Lewis said. “They were hotel guests’ vehicles. Luggage, electronics, clothes and other items were taken. They broke the windows out.

“Videotape shows about 4 a.m. a dark SUV with no plates park and a white male and a black male get out and look into windows and start breaking into vehicles.”

The victims and their vehicles included: a 36-year-old man from Jefferson, Ga., 2018 GMC truck; a 46-year-old man from Little Rock, Ark., 2017 Dodge Journey SUV; a 72-year-old man from Tampa, Fla., 2008 Ford Freestar van; a 55-year-old woman from Milligan, Neb., 2013 Saturn car.

Lewis said a second call came at 6:20 a.m. from the Holiday Inn Express, 1802 Gamel Cemetery Road.

“A 42-year-old man from Rolla had his 2016 Ford (vehicle) broken into the same, window smashed,” Lewis said.

He said the total value of the items taken from all the vehicles likely adds up to about $2,000. Other items taken from the group of vehicles included radar detectors, tools and “just all kinds of different stuff.”
