Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis reports that a body was discovered at about 1:50 p.m. today (Nov. 3) in woods off Veterans Boulevard (Hwy. A), directly across from the Wells Fargo office, 1311 Veterans Blvd.
“The body was found on the south side of Hwy. A, right below where the bluff is in the woods,” Lewis said.
Police are investigating, he said.
“It is really preliminary,” Lewis said, adding that police did not yet know for certain if the body is that of a man or a woman.
He said the body was found by a man who had eaten at a restaurant in that area and was taking a shortcut through the woods to walk home. He found the body at about 1:50 p.m., then ran home and called police at about 2 p.m., Lewis said.
He said he would provide more information as it becomes available.
