A farmers market is returning to Eureka.

The Route 66 Market is slated to be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, in the parking lot in front of the Mountain Bike Shed and Camila’s Tex Mex restaurant on The Legends Parkway.

Events with E, which is owned by Eureka resident Erica Trtan, is organizing the markets.

“I’m looking to do my markets every other Saturday here in Eureka,” Trtan said.

The Eureka Board of Aldermen members on April 6 voted unanimously to approve the market.

Trtan said the market will have crafts, fresh meats, fresh produce, eggs, honey, salsas, breads and local coffee as well as items for dogs.

“I have a variety of homemade craft vendors from wood to some knitting,” she said.

Trtan said she hopes each market will feature 25 to 50 vendors. She said she also would like to attract food trucks.

“I’m really hoping that it brings more people into our town,” she said.

Trtan said she believes the market will fill the void that was created when the Eureka Parks and Recreation Department stopped operating its market in March 2020.

The city-sponsored market was located at 394 S. Central Ave., the downtown location commonly referred to as the “Spur.”

“We want to bring in more variety in the larger spot,” she said.

Trtan said with the market located in a shopping plaza near Hwy. 109, people will be able to ride bikes or drive golf carts to the location.

She said she plans to run markets through October.
