imperial power outage

An Ameren crew works on Wednesday work to repair a power line that was damaged by a fallen tree in Imperial.

An estimated 6,000 Ameren customers in Imperial were without power between Tuesday night (Feb. 20) and Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 21) after a dead tree fell across power lines along the West Outer Road south of Old Antonia Road, Ameren spokeswoman Brianne Vaught said.

She said the outage was first reported at 9:58 p.m. Tuesday, and an Ameren employee was on the scene about 30 minutes later to diagnose the problem. A three-person work crew arrived at about 1:30 a.m., and a second crew was called in at about 2 a.m. to work on the problem, Vaught added.

A third work crew relieved the initial one around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday about the time power was being restored to some of the Imperial costumers. Power was fully restored throughout Imperial at about 11:50 a.m. Wednesday, Vaught said.

“They worked throughout the night,” she said. “It was a big job to do.”
