Timbers rec center voting

Voting judge Kevin Barnett assists Steve Nobel in filing his ballot at The Timbers of Eureka Recreation Center.

The plans for a new Eureka Elementary School and expansion projects at Geggie Elementary and Eureka High School can move forward now since Rockwood School District voters approved a $95.5 million bond issue on Tuesday (April 4).

In addition, the Rockwood Board of Education and the Eureka Board of Aldermen each have one new member.

Rockwood

Rockwood School District’s Proposition T – the $95.5 million bond issue – passed with room to spare, with 14,337 yes votes, or 67.38 percent, to 6,942 votes, or 32.62 percent. The measure needed 57.14 percent of the vote to pass. Revenue from the bond issue will be used to make capital renovations, repairs and improvements.

Current Rockwood school board members Lynne Midyett and Leonard “Keith” Kinder were elected to two of the three open seats, and Randy “Kirk” Miller was elected to the third open seat.

Midyett was appointed to the board in June 2016 to replace Rob Castle, who resigned in the middle of his three-year term. Midyett opted to not fill out the final year of Castle’s seat and instead ran for a full three-year term.

Kinder was elected for a third term, and Miller will replace Dominique Paul, who decided not to run for a second-year term.

The school board still has one seat to fill as Herman Kriegshauser, who was appointed in 2014 and elected to a full term the next year, died Dec. 31.

Eureka

On the Board of Alderman, Ward 3 has a new alderman since Steve Grzyb defeated incumbent Shannon Britt. In Ward 2, incumbent Carleen Murray retained her seat by defeating challenger Bryan Kiefer.
