After the first day of filings for the April 7 election, three school districts had races for seats on their boards, with the Fox C-6 School District drawing the largest number of candidates – six for two seats.
In addition, the Festus R-6 School District had four candidates file for two seats on its board, and the Windsor C-1 School District had three candidates for two seats.
Only one city had a race – Pevely, with two candidates filing for the one seat in Ward 1.
The Pacific Fire Protection District also had a race, with two candidates filing for one seat on its board.
At Fox C-6, Chris Hastings, Sherry Chellew Poppen, Drew Kriese, Mark Jones, David Palmer, an incumbent, and Robin Hanson had filed for one of the two Board of Education seats up for election.
The Festus R-6 district had Doug Wendel and Mike Wolk, both incumbents, Kristen Scaggs and Stephen Holt file for one seat.
At Windsor C-1, Tom Krupp and incumbents Michael Dubis and Sharon Swan filed.
In Pevely Ward 1, Debbie Hurley, an incumbent, and Steve Markus filed for one seat.
The Pacific Fire Protection District had Edwin Bruns and John Davis filing for a seat on the board of directors.
Filings opened Tuesday and will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Seats are open for boards that govern cities, school districts, fire, ambulance, water, sewer and road districts, as well as Jefferson College and the Jefferson County Health Department.
Filings will be taken at offices for the various government entities, although filings for the Health Department and the ambulance and special road district boards are taken at the Jefferson County Administration Center in Hillsboro. People who are interested in filing should check for business hours and holiday closures.
