David Robertson defeated incumbent District 97 state Rep. David Casteel in the Republican party’s primary election, according to complete, but unofficial election results Tuesday night.
He will face Democrat Dan Schaefer for the District 97 seat on Nov. 3.
District 97 covers a portion of northwest Jefferson County, including High Ridge, Murphy and Fenton.
Casteel, 43, of High Ridge was first elected to the seat in 2022 and was reelected in 2024.
On Tuesday, Robertson, 52, of High Ridge received 2,354 votes (56 percent of the votes) while Casteel received 1,846 votes.
Schaefer, who ran unopposed on the Democratic Party ticket, received 2,463 votes.
House representatives are paid an annual salary of $41,770 and serve two-year terms.
Robertson said he was excited by the election results, adding he is hopeful he will win the election in November because the area is mostly Republican.
“I think my chances are very good,” he said. “But I’m not taking anything for granted. I will continue to run a righteous campaign (focusing on the issues) without any mudslinging.”
Robertson is a retired physics and mathematics professor. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., in 1996 and a master of science degree from Stanford University in 1998. Robertson organized the St. Louis Medical Freedom March in 2022, created and managed the “We the People of Missouri/STL Patriots Events” email distribution list from 2022-2025.
“My goals if elected are to 1) restore the Founding Fathers’ vision of limited government to Missouri, government whose sole purpose is to protect and preserve the inalienable rights of the people, which come from God, and 2) return government to serving the interests of the citizens, not special interests and lobbyists. Ninety-five percent of my donations come from everyday citizens, not PACs and special interests,” Robertson said.
He supports cutting wasteful spending. He said government has become way too big. He said the sole purpose of government should be to protect the inalienable rights of the people.
