The Leader continues its Voters Guide for the Aug. 4 primary election. To assist an expected high number of people who will cast absentee and mail-in ballots, we will be posting profiles on candidates in contested races and ballot issues. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot or mail-in ballot is July 22. For information, call the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office at 636-797-5486.
In addition to choosing their chosen party’s nominees for county and statewide offices in the Aug. 4 election, voters who choose to cast a Republican Party ballot also will select a political party committeeman and a committeewoman from his or her township.
Because Aug. 4 is a primary election, voters must select a ballot from specific political party, although an option is given for a nonpartisan ballot that will only include ballot issues.
This year, only the Republican Party has contested races for committee seats.
On a local level, committeemen and committeewomen are generally responsible for helping to identify party supporters within their jurisdiction and get them to vote at election time.
The positions are unpaid and carry two-year terms.
