traffic accident 4 patrol patch

Two men were hurt in a one-car accident Saturday afternoon (Dec. 10) on Hwy. 21 south of Hillsboro.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Kenneth Evans, 29, of De Soto, was driving south on Hwy. 21 north of Castle Ranch Road at 2:45 p.m. when he fell asleep at the wheel and his 2002 Saturn Ion drifted across the center of the road and ran off the east side, where it overturned into a tree.

Evans and a passenger, David Acosta, 32, of Hillsboro, both sustained serious injuries and were taken by Valle Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, the report said.

Acosta was listed in good condition late Sunday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said, while Evans had been treated and released.

Neither man was wearing a seat belt, the report said. The Saturn was totaled.
