Stormwater drainage improvements are coming to Moulton Street in De Soto.
The De Soto City Council voted unanimously June 20 to award a $250,351 contract to Kimes Contracting in Hillsboro to complete the stormwater control project along the stretch of Moulton Street from Flucom Road to East St. Louis Street.
The city will use a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant to fund the project, with the city paying the remaining costs, City Manager Todd Melkus said.
The improvements will include the installation of approximately 861 lineal feet of storm sewer pipe, as well as the construction of eight curved inlet structures and new curbs, gutters and concrete entrances, Melkus said.
He said the improvements are needed along that section of the road because there is a steep hill with open ditches, and when the city gets extensive rainfall, the water runs down the hill with high velocity, causing washouts.
Melkus said installing the in-ground piping should prevent that from happening.
Work is scheduled to begin after the July Fourth holiday and be completed in 45 calendar days.
Kimes Contracting submitted the lowest of two bids for the project. Jokerst Paving also submitted a bid for $413,612, Melkus said.
