Starting in May, all Crystal City Water Department customers will be placed on the same billing cycle, with water bill payments due on the 28th of each month, city officials announced.
Under the existing system, the Crystal City water system has three billing cycles, which means customers have different payment due dates depending on their addresses.
City officials say the change will streamline the system.
Because there will be an adjustment period, some May bills will reflect more usage days than others. After the adjustment period, all meters will be read on the first business day of each month. All shutoffs for non-payment will still be 10 days after the due date, according to city officials.
Usage periods reflected on May bills will cover:
April 5 to May 3 for those with account numbers that start with 01,02, 03, 05, 06, 07, 16 and 17.
April 12 to May 3 for those with the account numbers that start with 08, 09 and 10.
April 19 to May 3 for those with account numbers that start with 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.
The bills for May will still arrive in postcard form. However, the Water Department is in the process of creating a full-color page bill that will be sent in an envelope monthly. The department anticipates adding payment options such as the ACH electronic payment system and auto-pay, according to the city.
