The Crystal City Kmart, one of the last of the Kmart locations in the St. Louis metro region, is among 80 Sears and Kmart stores scheduled to close in late March.
Sears Holdings, the parent company of Kmart, issued a press release today (Dec. 28) announcing the closures. The Crystal City Kmart, 155 Twin City Mall, is the only Kmart or Sears in Missouri on the list.
The press release states, “As part of Sears Holdings’ processes to accelerate its strategic transformation and facilitate its financial restructuring, on Dec. 27, 2018, the company informed associates at 80 stores that we will be closing these Sears and Kmart stores in late March 2019. Liquidation sales at these stores are expected to begin in two weeks.”
The newest list of closures is in addition to the previously released closure of 40 unprofitable stores expected to be completed in February 2019, the press release states.
