De Soto Senior Expo

At last year's De Soto Senior Expo, Madonna Pashia of De Soto and Carol Brentlinger of De Soto danced to “Heartbreak Hotel."

Make plans to join us for the De Soto Senior Expo, slated for Wednesday, April 20, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 13225 Hwy. E, in De Soto. Admission is free, and seniors from throughout Jefferson County are invited to attend.

Doors open at 8 a.m., and free coffee and doughnuts will be available immediately, courtesy of Leader Publications, the event sponsor.

Let’s go, Cards!

Wear red if you’re feeling lucky that day, because two winners will get a pair of tickets each to that afternoon’s St Louis Cardinals baseball game against the Chicago Cubs, along with dinner and limousine transportation to and from the game.

Expogoers age 50 or older may register at the Leader booth for the ticket giveaway, and two names will be drawn at random. There is a limit of one entry per person.

The winners and one guest apiece will be taken from the Expo in a Huskey limousine to Busch Stadium for the 12:45 p.m. game. Following the game, the four will head back to De Soto in the limo and be treated to dinner.

Only those age 50 or older are eligible to win the tickets, but guests may be any age. The prize package, worth about $500 for each winner, is courtesy of Leader Publications.

Busy day is planned

Vendors will be on hand throughout the morning with a wide variety of goods and services of interest to seniors. Many will offer giveaways and drawings for free items. Smart attendees will bring pre-printed address labels, to save time and effort when entering drawings, filling out forms or requesting information.

There will be two sessions of free bingo, with prizes including restaurant coupons and gift certificates.

Music will be provided by J.B. Louis and The Legends, a country music and classic rock cover band. Led by Jerry Blanton on lead guitar and vocals, the band performs music by country artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley and Waylon Jennings, as well as classic rock tunes. The band also includes Scott Schuchman on drums, Dennis Dailey on bass and Darrel Styles on steel guitar and vocals.

Casino trip

Immediately following the Expo, seniors may take a day trip to the River City Casino in south St. Louis.

Sponsored by Huskey Trailways and Leader Publications, the trip costs $20 per person, to be collected during boarding. The motor coach will leave from the Expo at about 11:30 a.m., and will return to the same location at approximately 6 p.m.

All participants must have valid photo identification. The deadline to register for the trip is noon Monday, April 18. Call 636-937-8481 or 1-888-248-7539 to reserve a seat.
