A candlelight vigil is planned for 7 p.m. tonight (Oct. 23) at Seckman High School, 2800 Seckman Road, in Imperial to memorialize Colton M. “Cole” Buehner, 17, of Arnold, a Seckman High junior who died Tuesday evening (Oct. 21) following a motorcycle accident at Vogel and Depot roads near the Target store.

In addition, services have been arranged.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home, 1081 Jeffco Blvd., in Arnold.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 27, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnhart.

The young man was the son of Chad and Gina Buehner of Arnold. Gina Buehner is an assistant principal at Fox High School.

At 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, Cole Buehner was riding a 2002 Honda CBR in the right lane of northbound Vogel Road, and as he approached Depot Road “at a high rate of speed,” where an SUV was making a left turn from southbound Vogel onto Depot Road, Buehner began applying the brakes, but the sudden braking caused the bike to fall on its right side, the report said.

Then, the teen and the bike slid across the intersection and struck the passenger side of the SUV, and Buehner was ejected. The bike then slid east across the southbound lanes of Vogel Road and struck the front of a 2004 Chrysler traveling south on Vogel, according to the report.

Jonathan L. Arnold, 34, of Barnhart was driving the SUV, a 2008 Ford Escape.

Judy A. Welsh, 69, of Arnold was driving the Chrysler.

No injuries were reported for them, Arnold Police Capt. Robert Ruckman said.

He said Buehner was wearing a helmet.

Buehner sustained injuries to his head, torso and legs and was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis County, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m., the report said.

The accident is still under investigation, Arnold Police reported Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 22).
