Thieves broke into the Medicine Shoppe in De Soto and stole more than $20,000 worth of medications.
The De Soto Police Department received the call at 9 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 22). When officers arrived at the pharmacy, 100 N. Main St., they saw that someone had pried open the front door sometime after employees left the store at 11 p.m. the night before and stolen a large quantity of medications, including controlled substances, Capt. Mike McMunn said.
“It was a variety of medications,” he said.
Police now are searching through video surveillance footage from other businesses on Main Street, McMunn said.
“There was no footage from the location,” he said.
Chief Rick Draper reported in a press release that there were lots of people on the street that night.
“Surveillance footage shows numerous citizens in the area and we believe someone may have seen something that at the time might not have seemed important,” he wrote.
De Soto police officers asking anyone who might have seen anything that evening or overnight to call the department at 636-586-8891, submit tips to the department’s official Facebook page or send an email to c.kosciolek@desotomo.com.
A similar crime was reported in Festus Feb. 20. Thieves there broke into the Prescription Plus pharmacy on 1113 W. Gannon Drive and stole more than $15,000 in drugs, according the Festus Police Department.
