The city of Pevely has issued a boil water order for residents on Joachim Street, Elm Street, Fifth Street, Fourth Street, Walnut Street, Old State Road South and South of Fifth Street.
The order was issued Thursday (Oct. 26) and remains in effect until Monday, according to a notice from the city.
Residents should boil water vigorously for three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking or brushing teeth.
Residents may disinfect dishes by immersing them in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon.
Otherwise, residents may safely use water from the tap for cleaning and bathing, but children should be supervised.
The city is replacing water lines in the area and a water line was broken during the work, City Administrator Todd Melkus said.
The city is recommending that other residents who lost water pressure or water service in the past 24 hours should also boil their water, according to the notice.
