Those wanting to participate in celebrations or watch fireworks displays on Thursday, July 4, may want to stay tuned to social media and the weather forecast.

De Soto and Eureka groups have announced potential rain dates while Hillsboro has already decided to postpone activities to Friday, July 5.

De Soto

The annual De Soto Fourth of July Parade is still set for 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4, at least for now.

“We plan to have the parade tomorrow rain or shine, unless there are severe storms. Then we will postpone the time,” said Sarah Greenlee, office coordinator for the De Soto Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the parade. For updates, visit the De Soto Missouri Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.

The parade route starts on Main Street, takes a turn onto St. Louis Street and ends at De Soto Junior High School.

She said there is a chance the chamber’s fireworks display could be postponed.

“It will be up to the firework company on whether they are able to shoot (Thursday), Greenlee said. “If not (held on Thursday), the fireworks display will be on Friday.

Whether the display is Thursday or Friday, July 5, it is set for dusk at the baseball fields behind De Soto High School.

Greenlee said some concessions will be sold from 5-9 p.m. on the De Soto Senior High School parking lot.

Amvets Post 48, at 1075 Amvets Drive, will hold a summer festival on July 4. Amvets will charge $5 for parking in its lot for the evening festivities.

The post will sell barbecue pork steak plates immediately after the parade; and starting at 4 p.m. there will be hot dogs, hamburgers and funnel cakes for sale and a Biergarten.

Eureka

Eureka’s annual Independence Day celebration is currently scheduled for 6-10 p.m. Thursday at the Central Avenue Spur, 394 S. Central Ave. The fireworks show is set to begin at about 9:15 p.m.

Parks and Recreation Department Supervisor Lizzie Roberds is hopeful that at least the fireworks display will still go on. If it rains, the concert at the Spur will be canceled.

Dance and rock band The Tailgators is scheduled to play throughout the event, which also will include food and drink vendors.

Roberds also said if the weather on Thursday is too severe, the fireworks show may be moved to 9:15 p.m. on Friday, but the Tailgators would not perform.

Hillsboro

The city of Hillsboro is rescheduling its Fourth of July celebration from Thursday to Friday.

The Fourth of July celebration at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds will take place Friday at 10349 Business in Hillsboro.

The gates open at 6 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at dusk. Admission and parking are free, and attendees are encouraged to bring something to sit on.
