The Arnold Recreation Center, 1695 Missouri State Road, will be closed Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 17-19, for annual cleanup and repairs.
In addition, the indoor pool at the rec center will be closed two days longer, from Monday through Friday, Aug. 17-21, so it can be drained, cleaned, serviced and repaired.
The outdoor pool will be open normal hours, from noon to 7 p.m. through Aug. 19. After that, however, the outdoor pool will be open only on Saturdays and Sundays and then on Labor Day, which is Monday, Sept. 7, the last day of the season for the outdoor pool.
The city will hold its annual dog swim, called the Pooch Plunge, on Saturday, Sept. 12, and after that, the outdoor pool will be drained and then cleaned before it’s reopened for the next season.
During the Pooch Plunge, small dogs, 25 pounds and under, may swim in the pool from noon to 2 p.m., and large dogs, those over 25 pounds, may swim from 2-4 p.m.
Admission to the Pooch Plunge is $5 a dog, accompanied by one adult. It costs $1 for each additional person with a dog. Proceeds will benefit the city’s two dog parks.
There is one Paw Park at Ferd B. Lang Park on Old Lemay Ferry Road. Another Paw Park is at Arnold City Park on Bradley Beach Road, but that one has been closed since mid-June because of debris left there from the Meramec River flooding.
Arnold’s Parks and Recreation director Susie Boone said her staff has been working to clear the debris and clean the back of the park, the part behind the gate, in time for the Arnold Days Festival, which will be Sept. 18-20.
The very front of the park, where the Arnold Farmers Market is held, was reopened July 18 and the rest of the front of the park, in front of the gate, was reopened July 31.
