The city of Arnold has hired Precision Concrete Cutting to remove tripping hazards on sidewalks alongside Starling Airport, Tenbrook and Arnold Tenbrook roads.

It soon will be safer to walk on three sidewalks in the city of Arnold.

The Arnold City Council voted unanimously Aug. 17 to hire Precision Concrete Cutting of Arnold to remove tripping hazards on sidewalks alongside Starling Airport, Tenbrook and Arnold Tenbrook roads in the northern part of the city.

Arnold will pay Precision Concrete up to $11,955.63 to fix an estimated 155 hazards on the sidewalks along the three roads, according to council documents.

“It is always a positive thing to remove potential hazards,” City Administrator Bryan Richison said.

Public Works Director Judy Wagner said the repair work was expected to start Tuesday, after the Leader deadline, and be completed Friday, Sept. 1.

Precision Concrete will fix about 70 hazards on sidewalks along Starling Airport Road, about 65 on sidewalks along Arnold Tenbrook Road and about 20 on sidewalks along Tenbrook Road, council documents said.

The city received a $2,717.19 discount on the work because it hired Precision Concrete before Aug. 31 and authorized work to begin before Sept. 12, according to council documents.

“We were able to get better pricing because we were able to lock it in,” Richison said. “It is always nice to save money. It is something we need to do anyway, and we were able to get it at a cheaper price.”

Wagner said the company offered the discount because it wanted to fill out its work schedule before the end of the summer.

She said the city previously hired Precision Concrete to remove hazards on sidewalks along Richardson Road and Pomme Creek Park, and she was pleased with the company’s work.

“Judy has been very happy with this company,” Richison said. “I am glad we found them. I anticipate we will keep using them to do more in different areas in the city every budget year. We want to try to eliminate all trip hazards that we can.”
