Arnold’s 50th anniversary celebration continues next week with a scavenger hunt for statues of the Arnold water tower that have been decorated by local artists.
The city also will hold a new Star Wars-themed swimming event at the Arnold Recreation Center.
For the scavenger hunt, participants will search for 10 water tower statues that will be placed throughout the city. The search started Wednesday, May 4, with the city posting clues about the towers’ locations on its Facebook page and on the Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page.
Kohut said the scavenger hunt is sponsored by Republic Services, and cash prizes will be awarded – $1,000 for first place, $750 for second and $500 for third.
Information about how to enter the scavenger hunt and rules for the contest will be available on the city and parks department Facebook pages.
The parks department also will hold its first “May The Fourth Be With You” swimming event from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at the Arnold Recreation Center’s indoor pool, 1695 Missouri State Road.
The swimming event is free to rec center members and costs $6 for non-members and $5 for those 55 or older who are not members. Children 4 and younger may participate for free.
The event will include photo opportunities with Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper. Inflatable light sabers will be given to children who are rec center members. Children who are not members may purchase one for $2, Kohut said.
“This is a first-time event,” she said. “We will likely do it again.”
