fatal traffic accident

A 38-year-old Arnold woman was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle accident that resulted in the death of Adam C. Whittington, 28, of Dupo, Ill., the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 5:15 a.m., July 29, Whittington was driving a westbound 2007 Ford Focus on the I-255 Jefferson Barracks Bridge in St. Louis County and stopped due to a previous crash, and then a 2016 Jeep Patriot driven west by the Arnold woman struck the rear of the Focus, the report said.

Whittington was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, where he was pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, July 30, the report said.

No injuries were reported for the woman.

She was wearing a seat belt, and it is not known if Whittington was wearing one, the patrol reported.

Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested the Arnold woman at 6:31 a.m. July 29 for the alleged DWI, the report said.

The woman’s name will not be published unless charges are filed against her, and as of this afternoon, Aug. 2, none had been filed.
