traffic accident patrol patch

Two women from Minnesota were injured in a traffic accident Sunday morning (Aug. 12) on I-55 south of Festus.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Hope Hardwick, 54, of St. Paul, Minn., was driving a 1997 Mercedes E320 north on I-55 at the 172-mile marker, about halfway between the Hwy. 67 and Hwy. 61 exits south of Festus, at 9:25 a.m. when she drove off the left side of the road and overcorrected, causing the Mercedes off the right side of the road, where it ran into a rock bluff.

Hardwick and a passenger in the car, Josephine Mixon, 71, of Columbia Heights, Minn., each sustained moderate injuries. Both were taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, the report said.

Updates on their conditions were not available.

Both women were wearing seat belts, the report said; the Mercedes was totaled.
