accident patrol patch

A St. Louis woman was killed and three people, including a woman from Festus, were injured in a traffic accident early Sunday morning (May 26) on I-270 in Bellefontaine Neighbors in north St. Louis County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Delphine Stegall, 43, of St. Louis, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu east on I-270 at Lewis and Clark Boulevard (Hwy. 367) at 1 a.m. when she had a flat tire and tried to pull over to the right shoulder. A 2017 Kia Sorrento driven by Carrie Govreau, 39, of Festus, hit the back of the Malibu and Stegall was thrown out of the car. The Kia spun and came to a stop facing west when her car was hit by an eastbound 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Hunter Wair, 21, of St. Louis. The impact of the collision caused the Pontiac to spin to the left, striking the right side of an eastbound 2011 Cadillac SRX, whose driver was not identified.

Stegall was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Govreau sustained serious injuries and Wair and a passenger in his car, Bryant Rice, 25, of St. Louis, each had moderate injuries. All were taken by Christian EMS to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Updates on their conditions were not available.

Govreau, Wair and Rice were wearing seat belts, the report said. The Chevrolet, Pontiac and the Kia all were totaled and the Cadillac had moderate damage.
