A St. Louis woman was injured Thursday afternoon (Dec. 10) in a two-vehicle accident on I-55 at the 201 mile marker in St. Louis County. An Arnold man also was involved in the accident, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 3:18 p.m., Jean M. Atkens, 66, of St. Louis was driving a 2013 Kia Rio south on the interstate and while changing lanes, struck the right side of a southbound 2011 Ford Expedition driven by Gerald T. Wheeler, 52, of Arnold, the report said.
After the collision, the Rio ran off the right side of the road, where it struck a sign and overturned, according to the report.
No injuries were reported for Wheeler.
However, Atkens was moderately injured and taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.
However, the hospital had no information about her, a Mercy spokesman said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.
The Rio was totaled, and the Expedition had minor damage, the report said.
