A Pevely woman, a Marquand man and a Warrenton man were injured Monday afternoon (Nov. 1) in an accident involving a Jeep and a backhoe on Old Hwy. 21 north of Connor Road in the Otto area, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 3 p.m., Amanda L. Irle, 38, of Pevely was driving a 2007 Jeep Liberty south on the highway, ran off the right side of the road and struck the rear of a John Deere 410G backhoe parked on the shoulder. Mark J. Vessell, 37, of Warrenton was on the backhoe when it was struck, the report said.

Irle was moderately injured, and a passenger in the Jeep – William R. Crass, 39, of Marquand – was seriously injured, and both were taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.

Vessell had minor injuries and was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South, the report said.

Irle and Crass were not wearing seat belts, and Vessell was using a safety device, the patrol reported.

The Jeep was totaled, and the backhoe had minor damage, the report said.
