traffic accident 3

A Rockford, Ill., man was seriously hurt Thursday morning (Oct. 4) when he wrecked the SUV he was driving on I-55 south of Hwy. M in Barnhart and was thrown from the vehicle, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 10:08 a.m., Trenton R. Vogel, 36, of Rockford was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe north on I-55, and the SUV ran off the left side of the interstate where it struck a cable barrier and then returned to the interstate and struck a northbound 2007 Mack Truck before running off the left side of the interstate again and striking the cable barrier a second time, ejecting him, the report said.

Steven M. Britt, 42, of Jackson was driving the Mack Truck. No injuries were reported for him.

Vogel was taken by Rock Township Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South (formerly St. Anthony’s Medical Center) in St. Louis County, where he was listed in serious condition this afternoon (Oct. 5), a hospital spokesman said.

Vogel was not wearing a seat belt, and Britt was wearing one, the patrol reported.

The Tahoe was totaled and the Mack Truck had moderate damage, the patrol reported.
