An Ironton man and woman were injured Friday afternoon (Feb. 5) in a three-vehicle accident south of Festus that also involved a Pevely man and Farmington man, who were not hurt in the crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The accident happened at 2:12 p.m. on Hwy. 67 at Montauk Drive, where Victoria A. Rodriguez, 79, of Ironton was driving a westbound 2013 Nissan Altima and allegedly failed to yield to oncoming traffic while attempting to cross the northbound lanes of the highway and pulled into the path of two northbound vehicles, the report said.
The front of the Altima struck the right side of a 2018 Mazda 3 driven by Aaron M. Champion, 23, of Farmington, and the front of a 2012 Dodge Ram 5500 driven by Christian W. Smith, 24, of Pevely struck the left rear side of the Altima. After the collisions, both the Altima and the Ram ran off the left side of the road, according to the report.
No injuries were reported for Champion or Smith. However, Rodriguez and a passenger in the Altima – Michael F. McWilliams, 67, of Ironton – were moderately injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.
All the drivers were wearing seat belts, but it’s unknown if McWilliams was wearing one, the patrol reported.
The Altima and Ram were extensively damaged, and the Mazda had minor damage, the report said.
