traffic accident

Timothy N. Landlois, 30, of Hillsboro was one of five people hurt Thursday (March 1) in a five-car accident on I-270 north of Dorsett Road in Maryland Heights, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The accident happened at 6:08 a.m. when Landlois was stopped in a 2011 Ford F150, along with two other vehicles, on the interstate because of an accident, and a 2011 Chevrolet Express 2500 cargo van driven by Jonathan N. Smith, 32, of Salem began to slide behind them and hit the rear of Landlois’ pickup, the report said.

That impact caused the pickup to hit the back of a 2016 Nissan Pathfinder SUV driven by Piyush K. Mishra, 40, of Maryland Heights. Then, the SUV ran off the left side of the road, where it hit a concrete median before it hit a 2012 Honda Civic driven by Nidal W. Othman, 46, of Valley Park, according to the report.

The Civic then hit a 2011 Gillig Bus that was driven by Sarah L. Love, 55, of Florissant, and the cargo van then struck a concrete median, the report said.

No injuries were reported for Othman or Mishra. However, Landlois and Smith were both moderately injured, and Love along with two bus passengers – Courtney A. Couch, 27, of St. Louis and Rozlyn A. Smith, 25, of St. Louis – each had minor injuries.

All those hurt in the accident were transported by ambulance to SSM Health DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, a report said.

All five drivers were wearing seat belts, and the passengers in the bus were exempt from wearing seat belts, according to the report.

The pickup was extensively damaged, and the cargo van was totaled. The SUV and the bus were moderately damaged, and the Civic sustained minor damage, a report said.
