A 21-year-old Hillsboro man was arrested for suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle accident on Friday evening (April 10) in Washington County that left him and a Cedar Hill woman seriously hurt, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The accident occurred at 6:36 p.m., when the man was driving a 2016 Ford Focus west on Hwy. A and allegedly ran a stop sign before the front right side of a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country minivan headed south on Hwy. 185 struck the rear right side of the Focus, the report said

After the collision, the Focus overturned and ran off the right side of the road, according to the report.

Benjamin E. Hansel, 59, of Sullivan was driving the minivan. No injuries were reported for him.

However, the driver of the Focus and a passenger in the car – Jaclyn E. Pelton, 19, of Cedar Hill – were taken by ambulance to Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital.

Neither the driver of the Focus nor Pelton was wearing a seat belt, and Hansel was wearing one, the patrol reported.

The Focus was totaled, and the minivan was moderately damaged, the report said.

The highway patrol arrested the driver of the Focus about three hours later at the hospital.

His name will not be published unless charges are filed, and as of today (April 11), no charges had been filed.
