Three-vehicle crash sends two to hospital this morning

A Herculaneum man was seriously hurt early Monday morning (Sept. 17) when he was struck by a passing car as he was directing traffic around a pile of debris at Taylor Avenue and Parkway Drive in St. Francois County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 5 a.m., Jeffery W. Womble, 43, was standing in the intersection directing traffic around, and Christopher J. Declue, 45, of Park Hills, driving a 2010 Ford Focus, failed to notice him and struck him, the report said.

No injuries were reported for Declue.

Womble was taken by St Francois County Ambulance to Parkland Health Center in Farmington, the report said.

No information was available about his condition on Tuesday (Sept. 18).

Declue was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The car had damage and was driven from the scene, according to the report.
