fatal accident

A Fredericktown man died Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 29), a few hours after he was involved in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 110 west of Olympian Village that also left a Hillsboro woman seriously hurt, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 10:20 a.m., Michael J. Hoyle, 43, of Fredericktown was driving a 2004 Saturn Ion east on Hwy. 110 east of Upper Plattin Road and failed to negotiate a curve before the car crossed the center of the highway into the westbound lane, where it struck a westbound SUV head-on, the report said.

Sarah D. Ervin, 36, of Hillsboro was driving the SUV, a 2005 Nissan Armada. She was seriously hurt and taken by Valle Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, according to the report.

Hoyle was taken by Valle Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City and then was transferred to Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur, where he was pronounced dead at 1:47 p.m., the report said.

Ervin was wearing a set belt, and Hoyle was not wearing one, the patrol reported.

Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.
