A Fox High School student died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 14, following a single-vehicle accident on Hwy. 21 in the Otto area, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

The Highway Patrol did not release the name of the 17-year-old from Fenton because he was a juvenile.

Fox C-6 School District officials confirmed today, Dec. 15, the teenager was a student at the high school. The officials did not release the student’s name or grade level.

“The Fox C-6 community is shocked and saddened by the tragic automobile accident Wednesday, Dec. 14, that resulted in the death of a member of the Fox High School student body,” district officials said in a statement. “We extend our sincere thoughts and sympathies to this student’s family, teachers and friends.

“The district is offering additional counseling support for any students and employees who need it to ensure they have the assistance they need as we mourn this loss in our school community,” the statement read,

According to the Highway Patrol, at about 11:20 a.m. on Dec. 14, the teen was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado south on Hwy. 21 when it traveled off the right side of the highway north of mile marker 179.2, which is north of Hwy. M and south of West Four Ridge Road, the report said.

The Highway Patrol reported the pickup was traveling too fast for the road conditions, and the driver overcorrected before going off the road. The Silverado ran into a tree and overturned, partially ejecting the driver, according to the report.

Rock Township Ambulance District personnel pronounced the driver dead at 12:06 p.m., the Highway Patrol reported.

According to the report, the teen was not wearing a seat belt, and the Silverado was totaled.
