Five Jefferson Countians, including four teenagers, were hurt Friday afternoon (Dec. 8) in a one-vehicle accident on Hwy. 67 just north of Sunnyside Road in the Festus area, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

At 2:55 p.m., Luke S. Gibson, 19, of Festus was driving a 2000 Hyundai Elantra north on Hwy. 67, and the car partially ran off the left side of the road before he overcorrected and the car ran off the right side of the road, where it struck two trees, the report said.

Gibson sustained minor injuries and was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, according to the report.

Three of Gibson’s four passengers – Alexander C. Johnson, 17, of Festus, Isabell G. Atkinson, 15, of Festus, and Savanna R. Schorman, 17, of De Soto – were seriously hurt. The other passenger – Isiah M. Repple, 20, of De Soto – was moderately injured, according to the report.

Johnson was taken by helicopter to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Atkinson was taken by Joachim-Plattin to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Schorman was taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to St. Anthony’s, and Repple was taken by Joachim-Plattin to St. Anthony’s, the report said.

None of those involved in the accident was wearing a seat belt, the patrol reported.

The car was totaled, the report said.
