Four people were injured Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 19, in a three-vehicle crash at Hwy. 30 and Local Hillsboro Road just north of Cedar Hill, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 3 p.m., two drivers were stopped at a red light – Carmen M. Schmidt, 18, of Cedar Hill in an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Impala and Carl E. Brenner, 58, of Fort Scott, Kan., in an eastbound 2016 Toyota RAV4 – when Walter W. Venable, 78, of Sullivan, in an eastbound 2003 Pontiac Vibe, allegedly failed to stop and struck the rear of both vehicles, the report said.

According to the report, Venable and a passenger in the car, Sharon F. Venable, 70, of Sullivan, were moderately injured. Schmidt and a passenger in Brenner’s car, Mary M. Brenner, 60, of Fort Scott, Kan., sustained minor injuries. All were transported by Big River Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County.

Schmidt, Mary Brenner and Walter Venable were treated and released, and Sharon Venable was in satisfactory condition as of Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 20, a hospital spokesman said.

The Brenners and Schmidt were wearing seat belts, and the Venables were not wearing them, the report said.

The Impala and Vibe were totaled, and the RAV4 sustained minor damage, the report said.
